LOVE

This poem was read on our wedding day - February 2nd, 1995 by the Rev. Winston D. Barrett, Negril, Jamaica, W.I.

LOVE
Love  is friendship set on fire.
Love  is the flame that leads a person
          from solitude to a state of union.
Love  is patient and kind.
Love  is not jealous or boastful;
          it is not arrogant or rude.
Love  does not insist on its own way;
          it is not irritable or resentful;
          it does not rejoice at wrong,
          but rejoices at right.
Love  bears all things, believes all things,
          hopes all things, endures all things.
Love  must be learned and learned again.
To love someone, is to see a miracle invisible
          to others.

The Gift of Friendship

This poem was hand painted on a hand towel which was given to Nicole & I by Our Very Special Friends Tensie & Lloyd Gordon of Lucea, Jamaica, W.I. soon after we met them in 1996.

We discovered later that the author was Helen Steiner Rice

The Gift Of Friendship
 
FRIENDSHIP IS A PRICELESS GIFT
THAT CANNOT BE BOUGHT OR SOLD,
BUT IT'S VALUE IS FAR GREATER
THAN A MOUNTAIN MADE OF GOLD.
 
FOR GOLD IS COLD AND LIFELESS
IT CAN NEITHER SEE NOR HEAR,
AND IN THE TIME OF TROUBLE
IT IS POWERLESS TO CHEER.
 
IT HAS NO EARS TO LISTEN
NO HEART TO UNDERSTAND,
IT CANNOT BRING YOU COMFORT
OR REACH OUT A HELPING HAND.
 
SO WHEN YOU ASK GOD FOR A GIFT
BE THANKFUL IF HE SENDS,
NOT DIAMONDS, PEARLS OR RICHES
BUT THE LOVE OF REAL TRUE FRIENDS.
